80th birthday 'red boiler suit' bonanza raises four-figure sum for Wales Air Ambulance

An 80th birthday celebration for Pembrokeshire’s Les Jones has raised more than £2,000 for Wales Air Ambulance thanks to a red boiler suit fancy dress barbecue on Cresswell Quay.

Friends and family all donned their red boiler suits as a salute to the Wales Air Ambulance crew, and following the event, the donations kept rolling in.  Last week Les was able to hand over a cheque which had a grand total of £2,250.

The Wales Air Ambulance relies entirely on donations to retain its crucial service and the cost of operating the fleet currently stands at £11.2 million a year.  It is the only air ambulance charity based in Wales, following its establishment on March 1, 2001.

Our picture shows Les Jones handing over the cheque to Mike May, who is Wales Air Ambulance's regional fundraiser, accompanied by Rhys Watkins, Steve Adams (landlord of the Cresselly Arms), Les's wife Anne, Patrick Jones and Noel Evans.
