County flies the flag for brilliant beaches

And 10 County beaches once again get to the fly the coveted Blue Flag for 2023 – the most of any county in Wales.

The Blue Flag Award is recognised around the world as a symbol of quality.

Beaches able to proudly fly the Blue Flag this year again are Amroth, Coppet Hall, Saundersfoot, Tenby Castle, Tenby South, Dale, Newgale, Whitesands, Poppit and Broad Haven (north).

A further seven county beaches also achieved Green Coast Awards.

The Green Coast Awards went to Abereiddy, Freshwater East, Manorbier, Penally, Caerfai, Druidston and West Angle Bay.

The Green Coast Awards recognise the ‘hidden gems’ of the coastline which also have excellent quality of water but not the same level of infrastructure as traditional seaside resorts.

The Coast Awards, run in Wales by environmental charity Keep Wales Tidy, play a vital role in protecting our precious marine environment.

All award-winning beaches must meet and maintain the highest environmental standards and achieve tough international bathing water quality targets.

Pembrokeshire County Council Leisure Services Manager, Gary Nicholas, said: “We are delighted once again to have so many Blue Flag and Green Coast Awards returning to Pembrokeshire. This doesn’t happen by accident, it underlines the year-round efforts to maintain water quality and keep the Pembrokeshire coastline a brilliant place to live and visit.”

Owen Derbyshire, Keep Wales Tidy Chief Executive, said: “These awards are a tribute to the hard work and dedication of those who strive to maintain and enhance the natural splendour of our coastline. However, with the privilege of enjoying these breathtaking landscapes comes the responsibility to protect and preserve them.

“Let us all pledge to do our part by respecting the environment and keeping our beaches clean and litter-free. Together, we can ensure that future generations have the opportunity to experience the wonder of Wales' coast.”
