Local Artist of the Week: VARIOUS ARTISTS
--
At Christmas in 2004 an earthquake and tsunami caused loss of life and devastation in south east Asia. The people of Pembrokeshire rose to the community challenge and raised a lot of money to support the ‘Tsunami Appeal’.
At the fundraising forefront were Pembrokeshire musicians. A show was held in a big top at Folly Farm, sponsored by Texaco (now Valero) attended by hundreds with musicians performing for free.
Fourteen musicians who performed regularly at the Pembrokeshire Acoustic Sessions in the Nautilus Restaurant, Broad Haven each donated a track towards a CD released in early 2005, which was promoted by the BB Skone Show and SPAN Arts, with proceeds from album sales going to help rebuild the affected areas.
A reminder, at this time of the year, of the benefits of goodwill towards fellow men, women, and children.
All musicians featured this week were on the CD.
Nicci Miles & Lee Mason: ‘Standing Still In Time’ – Lee still performs today with Newport’s Lowri Evans.
Ryan Jones: ‘Enemy Time’ – Pembroke Dock based singer/songwriter was the frontman of indie rock band Daisy Chain.
Halflight: ‘Linen’ – Halflight were Sarah Howells of Hakin & Richard Llewellyn of Cilgerran who later became Paper Aeroplanes. Today Sarah fronts indie rockers Bryde.
Guy Maile: ‘More Than Blues’ – a talented Preseli based singer/songwriter who no longer performs.
Nagus: ‘Putting All My Dreams On You’ – a folk trio or duo fronted by singer/songwriter/guitarist/didg player Mike Chant who became Mayor of St Davids and now volunteers as a lifeboatman. Mike performs as a solo artist these days.
