Pembrokeshire People Learn Sign Language

Sign and Share Club, a charity for D/deaf and hard of hearing people in Pembrokeshire, has recently awarded certificates to 33 people for completing an Introduction to BSL (British Sign Language) course. The course tutor, Adam Guichard, is deaf himself and involved in the deaf community in both Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire.

Comments from participants have been very positive. "This course was just right for me. Each session was enjoyable, and we learnt such a lot", "The handouts were very helpful", "I think everyone needs this, " “It went above and beyond what I expected, and Adam was brilliant at engaging with us and responding to our individual requests and concerns.”

Previously, the nearest face to face courses were in Llanelli and Swansea but these classes were held at a number of venues across Pembrokeshire, including the Torch Theatre in Milford Haven, Tramway café in Saundersfoot, and community venues in Haverfordwest and Johnston.

In January courses will run in Hubberston, Haverfordwest, Narberth and St Clears in Carmarthenshire.

Adam Guichard said, “We also run deaf awareness courses for organisations and have been working with the ‘Open to All’ project delivering deaf awareness courses to various businesses including Pembrokeshire National Parks, Bluestone Resorts and will be running a session with the National Trust in 2025.”
