Plans to Protect Pembrokeshire Against Climate Change

With climate change adaptation now an inevitability, a series of workshops are underway to help the people of Pembrokeshire prepare.
Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum, Netherwood Sustainable Futures and the Pembrokeshire Public Services Board are working on the development of a Climate Adaptation Strategy with businesses, local authorities and community groups.
The project is one of the first in Wales, and will focus on:
Climate risks: arising from changes to our climate which may impact on the local economy, natural environment, infrastructure, communities and people’s well-being.
Climate adaptation: helping to mitigate risks such as unpredictable severe weather, sea level rise, and changes in natural systems that we rely on.
Climate resilience: ensuring that Pembrokeshire can deal with future risks.
As part of the strategy, a series of workshops and sector-specific events are ongoing to take a deeper look at specific climate risks across industry, business, community, agriculture and the environment.
The workshops have already identified 39 climate adaptation priorities for Pembrokeshire, based on local knowledge in conjunction with the most recent Climate Change Risk Assessment for Wales.
Categorising these priorities has now begun, into immediate, short- and longer-term action plans.
The final Climate Adaptation Strategy document will be published in June 2022.
The project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Community Renewal Fund.
