Rishi Sunak becomes the next UK Prime Minister

Rishi Sunak will become the new Prime Minister for the UK.

The news broke as opponent, Penny Mourdant pulled out of the contest and backed Sunak just minutes before nominations closed. 

Mr Sunak was just one person nominated with the backing of 100 MPs. 

The new Tory leader takes over as PM officially on Tuesday morning (24/10) after meeting with King Charles and will then make his own statement as new PM shortly after 11:35am.
